Since April 2014, the Kyoto City Tourism Association (DMO KYOTO) has published monthly reports analyzing Kyoto’s tourism market trends to provide timely industry insights.
These reports summarize key performance indicators, including accommodation data from major hotels and ryokans within the city, as well as duty-free sales performance at local department stores.
This report summarizes the performance of Kyoto’s accommodation sector for July 2026. The data is based on a sample of 117 major hotels and 21 ryokans (Japanese-style inns).

Future Outlook & Market Analysis
As of July 1, forecasted occupancy rates are 74.2% for August (vs. 76.8% actual YOY), 78.6% for September (vs. 83.9% actual YOY), and 91.9% for October (vs. 90.0% actual YOY).
Although the forecasted occupancy rate for September has risen slightly from the 76.3% projected as of June 1, it currently remains below the actual figure of the same month last year.
In addition to the Chinese government’s continued travel restrictions, which make a recovery in accommodation demand among Chinese tourists during the Mid-Autumn Festival (September 25–27) unlikely, Japanese travelers tend to choose distant resorts during the consecutive holidays (Silver Week,a series of Japanese national holidays from Sept 19–23), which may make Kyoto City less likely to be chosen.Furthermore, international visitors may also refrain from visiting to avoid congestion during the consecutive holidays.
However, with the announcement that fuel surcharges will be reduced for tickets issued between September and October, there is a possibility that the forecast will be adjusted upward in the future.
